Paul Creedy, owner of RCTHostingIf you're marketing your business and website with a local newspaper ad then here are several must-read tips on getting your advertisement noticed:

Hook readers with your headline

Think carefully about the headline of your ad. Something punchy, similar to that of a news article, will grab readers attention – and fast. It may seem obvious, but readers are likely to be most interested by a offer they can't resist! Titles such as 'Sale now on', '2 for 1 Offer', '70% off' are brilliant for hooking readers in and encouraging them to read on. Plus, any title that includes the term 'Free' is bound to get a second-glance.

Keep it snappy

The advertising space you have at your disposal will depend on your budget, but whether you have a 5 line add or a full page spread keep your info short and sweet. Keep things simple and concise and don't forget to include the all important website address! Adding a memorable e-mail address for further info can be a good idea to. Why not create a unique e-mail address for use in your ad campaign? This can be a great way to keep track of your results.

Keep it focussed

As well as using concise copy, remember to keep your advertisement focussed on one service or deal. Bombarding your reader with too much information will be off putting. You don't need to provide in-depth details into every aspect of your business; by including your web address you will be instantly encourage users to find out more about your business on-line.

Use clever design

If you're ad can incorporate your own graphic design then think outside the box and produce something that will attract reader attention. One simple idea is to place a broken line around your ad. This will look like a 'cut-out here' line found on a coupon and will instantly catch the eyes of readers. Plus, make your web address font larger than the rest of your body text, this will ensure that it gets noticed!

Revisit your ad

When designing your business ad yourself it can all become a bit of a blur. Looking at something for too long can mean you don't see things in the most productive light. Put your ad to one side for a day before you submit it for printing. Revisiting it you may notice any unnecessary waffle and it will be easier to spot any typo's too.
